The Chinese have a saying, “Life’s like a drama, and vice versa.” With that in mind, I vividly remember a scene from a Korean drama about beauty and blindness that I find to be very true.
In the scene, the female character stood before a beautiful lake but she remains blind to the beauty, for her heart was too cluttered with old memories. Her companion asked her, “What do you see? Do you see the beautiful reflection of the trees on the tranquil lake; the soaring birds; the tall beautiful trees etc.?” Her tears fell, as she realised that she was blind to the beauty before her.
After watching that show (which was about ten years ago), I always remind myself to appreciate the beauty around me. Stop, look and appreciate. Be it nature, human or matters, I do not want to be blind to the beauty in my environment.
Two structures sit on the blind man’s land. This is one of them.
During the weekend, my WWOOF hosts brought me to the new land that they acquired last year. It used to belong to a blind man. It must have been a difficult journey for him to make, as one has to pass through the bush forest in order to reach this plot of land. My hosts said the blind man’s house was quite peculiar. From what I see (of what’s left to be seen), I liked it.
Climbing to the 2nd storey feels like climbing into the sky.
A less challenging way to get into 2nd storey.
Standing on the 2nd storey balcony, I closed my eyes and try to imagine what the blind man saw. I cannot imagine, for my mind and heart were too cluttered; too full. My senses have been infiltrated by the sweet fresh air and beautiful image that lies ahead of me.
The sun casts a lovely golden hue upon lush greenery that lies in abundance. It was a brilliant day. Birds chirped noisily, as they soared freely in the sky. The occasional light breeze felt like a gentle breath on my skin. Somewhere at a corner, a lake sparkles. I wonder if the blind man saw this.
I’m sure he did.
Are you blinder than the blind? Don’t be. Stop, look and appreciate. 🙂
Intrigued by the blind man as I do?
