Explore SG: The Tiger Brewery Tour

‘What time is it? It’s Tiger time!’

Did you know the tunes to the above catchy slogan? Created for Tiger Beer in the early 1990s, this jingle came to mind during my recent visit to the Tiger Brewery (Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore).

For those of you who are younger unaware, Tiger Beer was launched as Singapore’s first locally brewed lager in 1932. Between then and now, this refreshing thirst-quencher alcohol has gained popularity in more than 70 countries. The Tiger Brewery, where they produce the beer, is open to public and tours are conducted for the purpose of edutainment!

The 90-minute Tiger Brewery tour walks one through the Visitor Centre, Ingredients Kiosk, Brew House, Packaging Gallery and Tiger Tavern. In addition to learning more about the beer journey from grain to gold, I enjoyed the interactive and practical session whereby we were taught to tap our own beer and create the perfect serve!

#Ladies are advised to wear shorts/pants instead of dresses, as you need to climb stairs.

Besides that, there were many interesting facts! One that caught my attention was the invention of pull-tabs in 1962! Apparently, 70% of all beer cans used to have pull-tabs or “snap tabs” as they were called. However, people littered these tabs everywhere, until the “stay tab” was invented in 1975!

Stepping into the Tiger Tavern reminded me of an Irish pub with those rich wood and leather! For many, the highlight of the tour would be the beer appreciation session. Although Tiger is rarely my first choice when it comes to alcoholic beverages, I was pleasantly surprised by the awesome taste of the fresh brew! Besides Tiger Beer, the company also houses several brands including Heineken, Anchor, ABC Extra Stout.

Did you know?
#Each bottle of Tiger contains the finest malt, hops and yeast. The stringent production includes taste-testing more than 10 samples of water daily, over 200 quality checks and a brewing process that takes over 500 hours!

As soft drinks will be served to those who below the age of 18, parents can consider bringing your children on this edutainment brewery tour to enrich your child’s understanding of brewing!

Located in the western region of Singapore, the Tiger Brewery may seem out of the way BUT that’s just relativity causing irrational concerns. Constance Chuks Friday once said, “Unexplored paths lead to undiscovered treasures”. Well, he could be right.

#Don’t forget to bring your photo identity card for admission into the brewery.
